Nollywood movie producer Stanley Ontop has stirred fresh controversy after publicly questioning the financial situation of the late actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, following a viral video in which the actor’s widow, Stella Marris Okafor, appealed to Nigerians for financial assistance. The widow said she was struggling to pay rent, electricity bills and her children’s school fees, adding that the financial hardship had forced the children out of school.
Reacting to the emotional appeal, Stanley Ontop expressed disbelief that the family was seeking public donations barely two years after Mr Ibu’s death. He alleged that the late comic actor left about ₦66 million in his bank account and questioned what had become of the money. He also claimed that substantial donations were received during the actor’s burial, insisting that the public deserved answers before being asked to contribute again.
The filmmaker further alleged that several properties belonging to the late actor, including lands in Asaba and Enugu as well as a house in Lagos, had been sold for millions of naira. According to him, if those assets were indeed disposed of, there should be an explanation for why the family is now facing severe financial difficulties. Stanley also came to the defence of social media influencer King Mitchy, who conducted the interview with Mr Ibu’s widow that sparked widespread reactions online.
