Veteran Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku has urged Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu, arguing that the country’s problems did not begin with the current administration.
Anuku made the appeal during an interview on The Honest Bunch podcast, where he defended Tinubu’s administration and called on Nigerians to give the president more time to address the challenges confronting the country.
According to the actor, Tinubu inherited several problems and should be allowed sufficient time to implement his policies and fulfil his promises to Nigerians...READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE .
“Nigeria has to be patient for the renewed hope of this man. The country was not spoiled by him. There were people there before him,” Anuku said.
He questioned why Nigerians should place the entire blame for the country’s difficulties on the current president, insisting that previous administrations also played a role in creating the problems being experienced today.
Anuku further stated that Tinubu was doing well and urged Nigerians to exercise patience rather than expect immediate results.
“He has to fix it now. He’s doing great. Nigeria should be patient. We’re in too much of a hurry,” the actor said.
The veteran actor also expressed his support for Tinubu completing his constitutional tenure, saying he expected the president to remain in office for the duration of his term.
Anuku argued that replacing Tinubu would not necessarily guarantee a better outcome for the country.
He questioned whether Nigerians could be certain that whoever succeeds Tinubu would perform better, suggesting that the country could end up with a leader who is worse.
The actor also dismissed suggestions that he had been paid to publicly support the president or praise his administration.
“No one pays me,” Anuku said while defending his position.
He maintained that his support for Tinubu was based on his personal opinion and not because he had received financial benefits from the government.
Beyond his political comments, Anuku opened up about some of the difficult experiences he has faced in his personal life.
The actor spoke about the death of his wife, describing the loss as deeply painful because she was the mother of his children.
He revealed that the experience affected him emotionally and left him depressed for a period.
Anuku also alleged that some people he considered friends betrayed him during difficult moments, claiming that some even wished him harm.
Despite the challenges, the actor said he has regained his peace and strength through his faith.
He has previously faced public concern over his wellbeing after videos circulated online showing him appearing distressed. Anuku later rejected some of the claims surrounding the videos and said the controversy negatively affected his reputation and career.
His latest comments have generated reactions, particularly because they come at a time when Nigerians continue to debate the impact of Tinubu’s economic policies and the country’s direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While supporters of the administration argue that the reforms require time to produce lasting results, critics continue to demand faster improvements in living standards, security and the economy.
For Anuku, however, Nigerians should exercise patience and allow the president more time to deliver on his promises.
