The newly appointed Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Segun Aina, has unveiled an ambitious five year strategic reform agenda aimed at strengthening the credibility of the examination body, accelerating digital transformation, and improving service delivery for millions of Nigerian students seeking admission into tertiary institutions.
Speaking on his first day in office, Professor Aina described his appointment as both a privilege and a great responsibility, promising to build on the achievements of his predecessor, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, while introducing innovative reforms that will position JAMB as Africa’s most trusted and technologically advanced admissions and assessment institution. The development plan, titled “JAMB 2031: Building Trust, Reducing Trauma,” will serve as the board’s roadmap from 2026 to 2031.
According to the new registrar, the reform agenda is built around strategic objectives designed to improve institutional integrity, governance, customer service, technology, and collaboration with stakeholders. Among the key initiatives announced are a comprehensive review of JAMB’s technology infrastructure, the development of a unified mobile application for candidates and stakeholders, the establishment of a centralised customer service platform, the introduction of a fully paperless administrative system, and enhanced staff training and welfare programmes. These reforms are expected to simplify processes, reduce operational delays, and improve the overall experience of candidates and educational institutions.
Professor Aina stressed that while technology will remain at the heart of JAMB’s transformation, the board’s primary focus will always be the welfare and aspirations of Nigerian students. He noted that every registration represents the dreams of young Nigerians and the sacrifices of their parents and guardians, adding that fairness, transparency, efficiency, and accountability will guide every aspect of the board’s operations under his leadership.
He also called on members of staff to embrace innovation, professionalism, teamwork, and continuous improvement, emphasizing that enduring institutions are built on strong systems and shared values rather than individuals.
