The Academic Staff Union of Universities has declared a total and indefinite strike across three Lagos State-owned universities, leaving students facing another disruption to academic activities.

The affected institutions are Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH). The industrial action took effect immediately following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the Lagos State Government. 

The union said the ultimatum expired without a satisfactory resolution or concrete plan from the state government. It also stated that a further warning issued on September 10 did not result in the dialogue it expected before the September 13 deadline...READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE .

At the centre of the dispute is ASUU’s demand for the full domestication and implementation of applicable provisions of the December 2025 agreement between the union and the Federal Government across Lagos State-owned universities.

Among the issues raised are the implementation of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance and welfare provisions for serving and retired academic staff.

ASUU said the strike will remain in force until the Lagos State Government engages with the union and signs, adopts and implements the relevant provisions of the agreement.

The union acknowledged the potential impact of the action on students and the academic calendar, urging students and parents to remain calm while efforts are made to resolve the dispute.

The development means academic activities at LASU, LASUED and LASUSTECH could remain disrupted indefinitely unless negotiations between the union and the Lagos State Government produce an agreement.

ASUU also called on relevant stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, alumni groups and civil society organisations, to support efforts aimed at resolving the dispute and restoring normal academic activities.
