Nigeria has recorded another major Guinness World Records achievement after a massive crowd gathered at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos for a historic Nollywood film screening.

A total of 51,258 people attended the screening of Black Market on September 26, 2026, making it the largest attendance ever recorded for a film screening at a single location.

Damilola Osikoya, the CEO of Switch Visuals, was credited as the Event Production Producer responsible for the large-scale screening.

Her company served as the production partner for the event, helping transform Tafawa Balewa Square into a venue capable of accommodating tens of thousands of movie lovers at the same time.

The event required extensive planning, coordination and logistics because the organisers had set a target of at least 50,000 simultaneous attendees.

Thousands of people arrived at TBS hours before the screening, with long queues forming around the venue.

While Osikoya handled the event production, Nora Awolowo of Rixel Studios was credited as the producer of Black Market, the film that attracted the record-breaking crowd.

The crime thriller was directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and features actors including Lateef Adedimeji, Omowunmi Dada, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Scarlet Gomez, Susan Pwajok, Ibrahim Yekini and Uzor Arukwe.

The film follows five market women who become involved in a cross-border smuggling operation amid economic hardship and fuel scarcity.

Their lives take a dramatic turn when the daughter of one of the women is kidnapped.

The new achievement surpassed the previous Guinness World Records benchmark of 43,624 people, which was set during a 2015 screening of the Filipino film Felix Manalo at the Philippine Arena.

The Lagos screening therefore surpassed the previous mark by more than 7,600 attendees.

A Guinness World Records official was present during the event to verify the attendance, triggering celebrations among the huge crowd when the achievement was confirmed.

Fireworks were also used to mark the historic moment.

The record-breaking screening has highlighted the growing scale of Nigeria’s entertainment industry and the ability of local filmmakers and event producers to stage large international-standard productions.

Beyond the record itself, the event brought together filmmaking, live entertainment, corporate partnerships and public participation on an unusually large scale.

Black Market is expected to proceed to nationwide theatrical release following its record-breaking Lagos screening.

The achievement has also placed Osikoya and Awolowo among the Nigerian creatives associated with one of the country’s latest Guinness World Records milestones.
