American filmmaker, actor and producer Tyler Perry has revealed that he has no plans to get married, saying his views on marriage have been strongly influenced by what he has witnessed happen to people following divorce.

The 57 year old entertainment mogul made the revelation while discussing relationships and his latest movie, Why Did I Get Married Again?, during a recent television appearance.

Perry, who has never been married, said he has become increasingly convinced that marriage is not something he wants to pursue. According to him, the financial consequences of divorce have played a major role in shaping his decision...READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE .

The filmmaker pointed to people he knows who were financially successful before their marriages ended but later experienced significant financial difficulties after going through divorce. He described what he has observed as a widespread problem and said it has contributed to his decision to remain unmarried.

Perry’s comments have attracted attention partly because of the subject of his latest film. His new movie, Why Did I Get Married Again?, explores relationships, marriage and the complications that can arise between couples. The film is the latest instalment in his popular relationship focused franchise and was released on Netflix on September 9, 2026.

Despite creating films that frequently explore love, marriage and family relationships, Perry has maintained a different approach to his own personal life. He previously had a long term relationship with model and filmmaker Gelila Bekele, with whom he shares a son, Aman. The pair ended their relationship in 2020 after more than a decade together.

Perry has also recently spoken about making changes to his lifestyle as he gets older. In another interview, he revealed plans to move to Puerto Rico and reduce his workload so he can spend more time with his son and enjoy a slower pace of life. He said getting older had encouraged him to reconsider how much time he dedicates to work and how he wants to spend the next stage of his life.

His latest comments have therefore offered another glimpse into his personal philosophy, particularly his decision to prioritise independence and avoid a legal marriage. While Perry acknowledged the appeal of relationships, his concerns about the potential consequences of divorce appear to have made him comfortable with remaining unmarried.

The filmmaker’s position has sparked discussions about marriage, financial security and the risks that can accompany separation. His comments also come at a time when his latest movie is once again placing relationships and the challenges of marriage at the centre of public conversation.

For Perry, however, his decision appears settled. Despite spending much of his professional career telling stories about love, marriage and family, the Hollywood mogul says marriage is not part of his own future plans.
