The Oyo State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping after successfully rescuing two abducted children and arresting four suspected kidnappers during a coordinated security operation in the state.
According to the police, the children were abducted on Friday, June 27, 2026, from Ebinpejo Village through Lanlate in the Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State. Acting on credible intelligence, security operatives traced the kidnappers’ hideout to a forest where a rescue mission was launched.
The operation resulted in an exchange of gunfire between the police and the suspected kidnappers. While some of the criminals fled into the forest, one suspect identified as 25 year old Umaru Usman was apprehended after reportedly sustaining gunshot wounds during the confrontation. The police confirmed that the two children were rescued alive and immediately taken for medical examination and treatment. One of the victims sustained injuries while in captivity but received prompt medical attention before both children were safely reunited with their family.
The Oyo State Police Command described the operation as a product of effective collaboration among security agencies, intelligence gathering, and community support. The command expressed appreciation to the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, hunters, and residents whose cooperation contributed significantly to the success of the rescue mission.
