Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed three suspected terrorists during a successful ambush operation in Katsina State, in yet another coordinated effort aimed at flushing out criminal elements operating in the North West region of the country.
According to reports from military sources, the operation was carried out by soldiers of the 17 Brigade deployed in Dutsin Ma Local Government Area, where the troops laid an ambush along a known movement route used by fleeing terrorist groups. The encounter took place in the late hours of Friday as part of ongoing offensive operations targeted at degrading terrorist activities in the area.
The Army stated that the terrorists were intercepted while attempting to escape from earlier military pressure mounted in surrounding communities. Following the successful operation, the soldiers recovered significant items from the scene including an AK 47 rifle, ammunition, a motorcycle, cutlasses, charms, and a sum of money believed to be proceeds of criminal activities.
Military authorities described the operation as part of sustained efforts to restore peace and stability across Katsina State and other parts of the North West, which have in recent years experienced repeated attacks by armed groups often referred to as terrorists or bandits.
The Nigerian Army also reiterated its commitment to maintaining continuous pressure on criminal networks, stating that troops will not relent until all forms of insecurity are significantly reduced in affected regions. Residents were further encouraged to provide timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
Security analysts say such ambush operations have become a key tactic in the military’s strategy, allowing troops to intercept attackers on movement routes rather than waiting for them to strike communities.
