The Nigerian Army has successfully rescued a kidnapped senior military officer, Lieutenant Colonel Ofor Amobi, along with a civilian identified as Ikechukwu Onwuanra, following an intensive 10 day search and rescue operation across parts of Enugu State. The breakthrough has been described as a major success in the military’s ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes in the South East.

According to a military operational report, the rescue mission was carried out by troops of Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA, comprising personnel from the 82 Division Garrison, the reinforced 103 Battalion, the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service and the 197 Special Forces Battalion. The joint task force conducted extensive operations across the forests and surrounding communities of Inyi, Awlaw and Akpugo Eze in Oji River Local Government Area, where intelligence suggested the victims were being held.

The operation gained momentum after security personnel received credible intelligence from the Divisional Police Officer of the Inyi Division in the early hours of Friday regarding the victims’ location. Lieutenant Colonel Amobi and the civilian were found with gunshot wounds and were immediately evacuated to the 82 Division Medical Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment and undergoing medical evaluation. Preliminary findings revealed that the victims had been blindfolded, moved between undisclosed locations during their captivity and later abandoned by their captors as troops closed in on them.

The successful rescue has been hailed as another demonstration of the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence driven military operations. It also underscores the Nigerian Army’s determination to intensify efforts against criminal groups responsible for kidnappings and other security threats, while reassuring citizens that security agencies remain committed to protecting lives and restoring peace across affected communities.
