The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has commenced the public display of the academic credentials and personal particulars submitted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as the presidential and vice presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the 2027 general election. The move marks another significant milestone in Nigeria’s electoral process and is aimed at promoting transparency ahead of the polls. (Vanguard News)

In line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, the documents have been made available for public inspection at the INEC headquarters, giving Nigerians, political parties and other interested stakeholders the opportunity to examine the credentials and personal information submitted by the APC ticket. The commission said the exercise is part of its statutory responsibility to ensure openness and allow anyone with legitimate objections to follow the legal process provided by law. (Vanguard News)

According to the documents displayed by INEC, President Tinubu did not include his primary and secondary school certificates among the credentials submitted for the 2027 election. Instead, the documents contain sworn affidavits and other supporting records, a development that has already generated widespread public discussion on social media and within political circles. Vice President Shettima’s credentials and personal particulars were also displayed alongside those of the President for public scrutiny. (Vanguard News)..READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE .

The publication comes as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election, with major political parties finalising their candidates and campaign strategies. The display of candidates’ credentials is a mandatory stage in Nigeria’s electoral process and provides an avenue for anyone who identifies discrepancies or has legal objections to present them through the appropriate judicial channels rather than through public speculation.

As preparations for the 2027 elections intensify, the scrutiny of candidates’ qualifications is expected to remain a major talking point among political stakeholders and voters. INEC has maintained that the exercise is designed to strengthen confidence in the electoral process by ensuring that all submitted documents are subjected to public examination in accordance with the law.
