The Federal Road Safety Corps has praised Dangote Cement Plc for what it described as a remarkable improvement in transport safety standards following the implementation of new operational reforms and transport safety policies across the company’s nationwide logistics network. The commendation came after fresh data revealed a major decline in road crashes involving Dangote Cement trucks, a development authorities say is helping to improve safety on Nigerian highways.
Speaking during a visit by officials of Dangote Cement to the FRSC headquarters in Abuja, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed said the company has become a model for transport management and road safety practices not only in Nigeria but across Africa. According to him, comparative statistics between 2025 and 2026 showed a 56 per cent reduction in crashes involving Dangote Cement trucks, while fatalities dropped by 36 per cent and injuries declined by 52 per cent.
The FRSC leadership attributed the progress to the successful implementation of recommendations contained in a comprehensive safety system gap analysis earlier conducted on Dangote Cement’s transport operations. The Corps Marshal stated that the improvements demonstrate how strong collaboration between regulators and private sector operators can significantly reduce accidents and save lives. He urged other transport and logistics companies operating heavy-duty fleets across the country to adopt similar safety measures and reforms in order to improve standards within the industry.
Officials of Dangote Cement disclosed that the company has invested heavily in modern transport management systems designed to strengthen road safety and operational efficiency. These include automated inspection technologies, artificial intelligence driven monitoring systems, real-time driver behaviour tracking, GPS monitoring and enhanced driver recertification programmes aimed at detecting risky driving patterns before accidents occur.
Head of Transport at Dangote Cement, Murilo Silva, explained that the company’s partnership with the FRSC has played a major role in transforming its transport operations. He noted that continuous driver training, stricter compliance measures and regular safety evaluations are helping the company move closer to its zero accident target.
Group Chief HSSE and Sustainability Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, Dr James Adenuga, also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to maintaining global safety standards and continuously improving transport operations through innovation and stronger compliance systems.
The latest recognition comes amid growing concerns over the high rate of road accidents involving articulated vehicles in Nigeria. Safety experts believe that stronger enforcement of transport regulations, investment in driver training and adoption of technology-based monitoring systems could significantly reduce fatalities on the nation’s highways if widely embraced by major fleet operators.
