A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has granted former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai permission to receive dental and eye treatment in Abuja while remaining under the strict supervision of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

The ruling came amid ongoing legal proceedings involving the former governor, who is currently facing allegations related to fraud and money laundering alongside a co defendant, Joel Adoga. Both men had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them by the ICPC.

According to details released by the commission, El Rufai’s legal team approached the court with a request seeking variation of his bail conditions and also made what was described as a compassionate appeal for access to urgent medical care. The defence specifically requested permission for treatment at Mile Dental Clinic and Skipper Eye-Q Hospital in Abuja, citing the need for specialized dental and eye attention.  ..READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE .

Delivering the ruling, the court approved the request and directed the ICPC to escort El Rufai to the designated medical facilities whenever necessary. However, the judge emphasized that all movements related to the medical visits must remain under strict supervision and that the former governor must be returned to custody immediately after treatment.

The ICPC confirmed that it would comply fully with the court’s directives while ensuring that lawful custody arrangements remain intact pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions earlier imposed on the former governor.

El Rufai’s legal troubles began earlier this year when he and Adoga were arraigned before the Federal High Court on a 10 count charge bordering on alleged corruption, conversion of funds, and money laundering offences. During earlier proceedings, the court granted the former governor bail in the sum of N200 million with two sureties, while also affirming the administrative bail previously granted to the second defendant.

The latest court decision has generated considerable attention across political and legal circles, with observers closely monitoring developments in the high profile case. Some analysts believe the approval reflects the judiciary’s attempt to balance humanitarian considerations with the need to preserve the integrity of ongoing legal proceedings.

Others argue that the strict supervision condition attached to the ruling underscores the seriousness with which authorities are handling the matter, ensuring that access to medical care does not interfere with the judicial process.

The case continues to attract national interest given El Rufai’s influential role in Nigerian politics and his longstanding presence within the country’s political establishment. As proceedings continue, attention is expected to remain focused on both the legal implications of the charges and the broader political conversations surrounding the former governor’s situation.

For now, the court’s ruling provides El Rufai temporary relief to address his health concerns while remaining firmly within the oversight of anti corruption authorities.
