Nigerian Graduates Can Apply for 2027/2028 UK Commonwealth Scholarship

Nigerian graduates seeking to further their education in the United Kingdom have been invited to apply for the 2027/2028 Commonwealth Scholarship programme.

The scholarship is available for eligible Nigerians pursuing a one-year taught Master’s degree or doctoral studies of up to three years in UK institutions. Applications are expected to close on October 20, 2026.

For the Master’s programme, applicants must have obtained at least a Second Class Upper degree. PhD applicants are required to hold a relevant Master’s degree and at least a Second Class Lower in their first degree...READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE .

Applicants must also have secured admission into at least two eligible UK institutions, while prospective PhD candidates are expected to provide a supporting statement from a potential supervisor. Evidence of participation in the National Youth Service Corps is also required.

Interested candidates are expected to complete their applications online through the Electronic Application System and upload documents including a passport photograph, academic transcripts, birth certificate and UK admission letter.

The selection process will consider academic merit, the potential development impact of the proposed study and the quality of the applicant’s study plan.

Applicants have also been advised to align their proposed studies with Nigeria’s development priorities, including education, healthcare, economic growth, governance, climate and environment, engineering, science and technology, food and nutrition, water and sanitation, and humanitarian emergencies.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to gain advanced education in the UK while developing skills that could contribute to Nigeria’s development.

The application deadline is October 20, 2026, and prospective candidates are encouraged to begin preparing their documents early.
