The Osun State Police Command has released the state Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Mayowa Adejoorin, after he was arrested in connection with a shooting incident during a political rally in Ilesa.
Adejoorin was taken into police custody following the incident which occurred on Saturday during an All Progressives Congress, APC, street rally in the Isokun area of Ilesa, as political activities intensify ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.

According to the Osun State Police Command, its operatives moved to the area after receiving a distress call and cordoned off the scene as part of efforts to restore order and prevent further escalation.
The police said some individuals believed to be Amotekun personnel were allegedly seen around the scene and that a vehicle bearing an official Osun State Government number plate was connected to the incident. The command also said expended cartridges and other items were recovered during the initial investigation.
Adejoorin was subsequently arrested at the scene and taken to the police headquarters in Osogbo for questioning as investigators sought to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and determine the roles of those involved.
However, the police have now confirmed that the commissioner has been released on bail. The Amotekun operative who was arrested alongside him reportedly remains in police custody while investigations continue.
The incident has generated political tension in Osun State, with rival political camps trading accusations over who was responsible for the violence. The APC and Accord Party have both presented different accounts of what happened during the rally, making the police investigation particularly important in establishing the facts.
The development comes at a sensitive period in Osun State, with the governorship election only days away and political parties intensifying their campaigns across the state.
