Alessandro Bastoni scored in the 68th minute to earn Italy a 1-1 draw against France in the UEFA Nations League on Friday.

Michael Olise had put France ahead in the 55th minute, but Bastoni capitalised on a defensive error to bring Italy level 13 minutes later.

Italy responded strongly and continued to press for an equaliser. Their persistence paid off when Bastoni reacted quickly to a mistake in the French defence and finished calmly to restore parity.

France were reduced to 10 men after Dayot Upamecano was sent off in the 85th minute. The dismissal gave Italy a late opportunity to claim all three points, but France defended resolutely during the closing stages.

Despite their numerical advantage, Italy could not find a winning goal, leaving both teams to settle for a share of the points.

The draw ended Zinedine Zidane’s perfect start as France manager. France remain top of the group with seven points, while Italy have four points from their opening matches.

The result keeps France in a strong position in the group, although Italy will view the performance as an encouraging response after falling behind. Both teams will now turn their attention to their next Nations League fixtures as they continue their push for qualification.
