The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Nollywood actor Chijioke Temidayo Nwokafor, popularly known as Cjay.
Cjay’s death was announced by his colleague, actress Nkechi Blessing, on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, after the actor was reportedly confirmed dead at a hospital in Badore, Lagos.

The actress described the development as difficult to accept, saying they still had plans together. She also cancelled the scheduled release of her movie, Egusi Ogbono, in which Cjay featured, following the actor’s death. The film had initially been scheduled to premiere at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
Other members of the entertainment industry have also reacted with shock and sadness. Actor Charles Born expressed disbelief, saying he had planned to visit Cjay at the hospital.
Another actor, Emeka Nwagbaraocha, also mourned the deceased, describing him as a “sweet soul” and expressing difficulty coming to terms with having to speak about him in the past tense.
Cjay reportedly began his professional acting career in 2021 and appeared in several Nollywood productions, including Larry Cold, Mum Overnight, A Day to My Wedding, The Lies She Tell and What Time Left. He was from Awka, Anambra State, and was based in Lagos.
The cause of Cjay’s death has not been disclosed by his family or colleagues. Funeral arrangements had also not been announced.
His sudden passing has left colleagues, friends and fans mourning an actor whose career was still developing, with tributes continuing to emerge across social media.
