Manchester United have revealed the financial impact of Ruben Amorim’s departure as the club published its latest full year financial results.

The Portuguese manager left his position as Manchester United head coach in January 2026 after just 14 months in charge. The club’s latest accounts show that Amorim’s departure and related costs contributed to an exceptional charge of £8.2 million for the 2025/26 financial year.

The latest figure is lower than the maximum potential compensation previously disclosed by the club. United had initially recorded a provision of up to £15.9 million for settlement payments involving Amorim and members of his coaching staff, while additional accounting costs were also associated with his departure...READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE .

Reports earlier in the year had put the potential total cost of ending Amorim’s contract at £16.7 million. His subsequent appointment by AC Milan reduced Manchester United’s financial obligation because the club was no longer required to cover the full original compensation package.

Despite the managerial change, Manchester United recorded record revenue of £677.6 million for the 2025/26 financial year, even though the club spent the season without European football.

The club also reported adjusted EBITDA of £198.7 million, while its wage bill fell by 3.6 per cent to £302 million as part of wider efforts to reduce operating costs.

However, the financial results still showed a pre tax loss of almost £47 million, highlighting the continuing financial pressures facing the club despite its record revenue.

Manchester United also pointed to improvements in operating efficiency, with other operating expenses falling by £11.2 million to £159.2 million. The club said the reduction was largely linked to cost saving measures and lower matchday expenses resulting from hosting fewer home fixtures.

The club’s financial position is now being supported by a return to Champions League football, following a third place Premier League finish under Michael Carrick after Amorim’s departure.

United have also issued financial guidance for the 2026/27 financial year, projecting revenue of between £740 million and £760 million and adjusted EBITDA of between £205 million and £225 million.

Amorim’s departure therefore represents another significant managerial cost for Manchester United, but the latest accounts also show increased revenue and continued efforts to reduce expenditure as the club seeks greater financial stability.

With Champions League football returning to Old Trafford and Carrick continuing as head coach, the club will now hope its improved commercial and sporting position translates into stronger financial results in the coming year.
