President Bola Tinubu has directed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, to ensure the timely release of all approved funds to Nigeria’s Regional Development Commissions.
Tinubu gave the directive on Monday at the North Central Development Commission Summit in Abuja, where he said adequate funding was essential for the commissions to execute projects capable of transforming their respective regions.

He also advised the commissions to explore alternative sources of funding, including public private partnerships, donor support and development financing, rather than relying solely on government allocations.
Tinubu warned the boards and management of the commissions against corruption, waste, politicisation and misuse of public resources, stressing that anyone found culpable would face sanctions.
He further clarified that the regional commissions were created to complement existing government institutions and address development gaps across the country, not to replace or duplicate the responsibilities of state and local governments.
