The Federal Government has launched a new consumer credit initiative that will allow eligible Nigerians to purchase laptops, internet-enabled devices, and other essential digital tools through affordable financing, in a move aimed at accelerating digital inclusion and boosting economic opportunities across the country.
The programme, known as the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.), is being implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy as part of the government’s broader efforts to make technology more accessible to millions of Nigerians.

Speaking at the launch in Abuja, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, described affordable consumer credit as a critical driver of economic growth. He noted that giving Nigerians access to productive assets such as laptops would encourage entrepreneurship, improve digital skills, create employment opportunities, and contribute to the country’s ambition of building a stronger technology-driven economy.
The programme is also linked to the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative, with an initial rollout that will see 1,000 locally assembled laptops distributed to eligible beneficiaries. The government says prioritising locally manufactured devices will not only support digital inclusion but also strengthen Nigeria’s local technology industry and create more jobs within the manufacturing value chain.
CREDICORP Managing Director, Uzoma Nwagba, explained that the first phase of the programme has already begun in Abuja, where dozens of beneficiaries received their laptops. The remaining devices will be distributed across other states in phases as the initiative expands nationwide.
Beyond helping Nigerians acquire laptops, the C.L.I.C.K.D. programme is expected to improve access to remote work opportunities, digital learning, software development, online businesses, and other technology-driven careers. Government officials believe the initiative will bridge the digital divide while empowering young Nigerians with the tools required to compete in today’s global digital economy.
Interested applicants are expected to apply through the official CREDICORP application process and meet the eligibility requirements outlined by the programme. Officials say additional details regarding registration, participating financial institutions, and repayment options will continue to be made available as the nationwide rollout progresses.
