President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside governors from the six South-West states, is set to commission the newly revamped Premier Hotel in Ibadan, marking the rebirth of one of Nigeria’s most iconic hospitality landmarks and a major milestone in the region’s economic and tourism development agenda.

The project, spearheaded by Odu’a Investment Company Limited, represents a significant transformation of the historic hotel, which has long been regarded as a symbol of the old Western Region’s economic strength and cultural heritage. The redevelopment is expected to reposition Ibadan as a major destination for tourism, business and investment in Nigeria.

Originally established in 1966, Premier Hotel has occupied a special place in Nigeria’s history, hosting numerous heads of state, diplomats, business executives and distinguished visitors over several decades. However, years of deterioration and operational challenges had diminished its prominence, prompting a massive reconstruction initiative aimed at restoring its former prestige.  ..READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE .

The upgraded facility has undergone extensive modernisation, increasing its accommodation capacity from fewer than 90 rooms to 154 rooms while introducing contemporary amenities designed to meet international hospitality standards. The renovation also includes upgraded recreational facilities, improved interior designs and enhanced infrastructure to attract both local and foreign visitors.

The commissioning ceremony is expected to draw political leaders, business executives, traditional rulers and other stakeholders from across the South-West region. The participation of all South-West governors highlights growing efforts to strengthen regional economic cooperation and revive shared assets that can drive sustainable development.

Odu’a Investment Company Chairman, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, described the project as more than just a hotel renovation, saying it symbolises the collective ambition of the South-West to preserve its legacy while creating new opportunities for economic growth. He noted that the investment is expected to generate employment, stimulate commerce and boost internally generated revenue across the region.

Analysts believe the relaunch of Premier Hotel could trigger broader investments in Oyo State’s hospitality, entertainment and tourism sectors. As Nigeria continues efforts to diversify its economy away from oil dependence, tourism infrastructure projects such as this are increasingly viewed as important drivers of regional prosperity.

Beyond its economic significance, the restoration of Premier Hotel carries deep symbolic value for many Nigerians, particularly those from the South-West, as it represents the preservation of a historic institution that once embodied the developmental vision of the old Western Region. With its official unveiling now imminent, stakeholders are hopeful that the revitalised facility will once again become a centrepiece of commerce, culture and hospitality in Nigeria.
