Turkish champions Galatasaray are reportedly preparing an ambitious strategy to convince Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen to remain at the club by offering him both the iconic No. 9 jersey and the captain’s armband ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The move is seen as a powerful statement of intent from the Istanbul giants, who are eager to build their future around the Super Eagles star amid growing interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Since arriving at Galatasaray, Osimhen has worn the No. 45 shirt because the prestigious No. 9 jersey has been occupied by Argentine striker Mauro Icardi. However, with Icardi expected to leave the club at the end of June, Galatasaray are ready to hand the famous number to Osimhen, symbolising his new status as the undisputed face of the team.  ..READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE .

The jersey offer is only one part of a broader retention strategy. Club officials are also considering making Osimhen the team’s captain, believing his influence both on and off the pitch has already made him a natural leader within the dressing room. Turkish football analyst Ali Naci Kucuk revealed that Galatasaray executives see this as an opportunity to give the Nigerian international a level of responsibility he may not immediately receive at clubs such as Manchester United, Arsenal or Chelsea, where established leadership structures are already in place.

By combining the captaincy role with the symbolic No. 9 jersey, Galatasaray hope to create a deeper emotional connection between Osimhen and the club, making him feel central to their long term ambitions rather than simply another star player on the payroll.

Osimhen has become one of the most influential figures at the club since joining, consistently delivering goals and establishing himself as a fan favourite. His performances have also attracted interest from several European heavyweights, leading to continuous speculation over his future. Despite the rumours, recent reports indicate that the striker remains committed to Galatasaray and has publicly downplayed suggestions that he is actively seeking a move elsewhere.

The coming weeks could prove decisive for both Osimhen and Galatasaray. If the club successfully persuades him to embrace the No. 9 shirt and captaincy responsibilities, it could mark the beginning of a new era with the Nigerian forward at the heart of their domestic and European ambitions.
