A Nigerian student living in the United Kingdom has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison after being convicted of attempted r*pe and sexual assault following an attack on a vulnerable woman in Hull, England. The court also ordered that he be deported from the UK after completing his prison sentence.
The convict, identified as 27-year-old Qudus Ajeyemi, popularly known by the nickname “Spartan,” was found guilty after a six-day trial at Hull Crown Court. At the time of the incident, he was living on May Street in Hull and was residing in the country on a student visa.
According to court proceedings, the incident occurred in early 2023 after Ajeyemi encountered a woman who was heavily intoxicated and unable to properly care for herself. The victim later alerted authorities, prompting an investigation that led to Ajeyemi’s arrest and eventual prosecution. Evidence gathered during the investigation, alongside testimony presented during the trial, contributed significantly to securing the conviction.
During sentencing, the court strongly condemned his actions, stressing that the victim was in an extremely vulnerable condition and should have been protected rather than exploited. The judge also highlighted the long lasting emotional and psychological effects such offences can have on survivors.
British authorities further confirmed that Ajeyemi would be deported to Nigeria after serving his prison term in accordance with immigration laws that apply to foreign nationals convicted of serious crimes.
