Residents of Ejigbo in Lagos State were thrown into panic after a violent gun battle erupted between police operatives and a suspected kidnapping gang allegedly plotting to abduct a prominent billionaire businessman. The dramatic operation, which reportedly lasted for several hours, ended with four suspected kidnappers being killed while security agencies intensified efforts to track down other fleeing members of the criminal network.

According to reports, the confrontation occurred near Jakande Estate Gate in the Ejigbo area after intelligence gathered by security operatives revealed plans by the gang to carry out a high-profile abduction. Acting on the information, officers launched a coordinated operation aimed at preventing the attack before it could be executed. The situation quickly escalated when the suspects allegedly opened fire upon sighting the police team, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire that sent residents and traders scrambling for safety.

Authorities disclosed that the gang was believed to specialize in targeting wealthy businessmen and influential individuals for kidnapping operations. The suspected group was reportedly led by a notorious figure identified as Ifeanyi, also known as “Ifeko,” who investigators claimed had returned to Nigeria from abroad to coordinate the planned operation. Security sources further linked the suspect to previous criminal networks involved in high-profile kidnapping activities within Lagos and other parts of the country.  ..READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE .

The police said their operatives responded with superior firepower during the confrontation, leading to the neutralization of four gang members. However, at least one suspect reportedly escaped from the scene with gunshot injuries, prompting an ongoing manhunt. Law enforcement officials have vowed to apprehend the fleeing suspect and dismantle every remaining part of the criminal network.

Recovered from the scene were an AK-47 rifle, additional firearms, live ammunition, and vehicles allegedly used by the gang in their operations. The seizure of the weapons and vehicles is expected to assist investigators in uncovering further details about the syndicate’s activities and possible connections to other kidnapping cases.

The operation was not without casualties on the side of law enforcement, as a police inspector attached to the anti-kidnapping squad reportedly sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the exchange. The officer was rushed to a medical facility for treatment and is said to be responding positively.

Videos circulating online after the operation captured moments from the aftermath and sparked widespread reactions from Nigerians, many of whom commended the police for preventing what could have become another major kidnapping incident in the state. The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns over kidnapping and organized crime across the country, even as security agencies continue efforts to curb the threat through intelligence-led operations and coordinated enforcement actions.
