Popular Nigerian skitmaker Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, better known as Sabinus, has spoken out against what he described as the growing “agbero pandemic” in Lagos.
The comedian reacted after a video showing a group of youths surrounding a Tesla Cybertruck at the National Stadium in Surulere went viral on social media.

According to accounts accompanying the viral footage, the youths initially gathered around the luxury electric vehicle to take pictures.
However, the situation reportedly became tense when the owner attempted to leave the area.
The group allegedly surrounded the vehicle and demanded money before allowing it to pass. The incident reportedly became so intimidating that the vehicle owner eventually abandoned the Cybertruck at the stadium.
The circumstances surrounding the incident have generated fresh discussions about street-level extortion, intimidation and the activities of groups commonly referred to as “agberos” or “omoniles” in parts of Lagos.
Sabinus Reacts
Reacting to the development, Sabinus expressed frustration over what he described as the increasing prevalence of such activities in the state.
The comedian questioned why grown men, including people who may be responsible for providing for their families, would engage in behaviour that could bring embarrassment to themselves and their communities.
He also suggested that his previous attempts to speak about the issue had attracted criticism.
Sabinus wrote that he had decided to “wash his hand” of the matter, expressing his frustration over the situation.
Fresh Attention on Street Extortion
The incident comes amid broader complaints from some commercial transport operators about alleged extortion involving various enforcement and transport-related actors in Lagos.
In September, some commercial bus drivers reportedly embarked on a strike along the Iyana-Ipaja/Iyana-Iba axis over allegations of extortion, with drivers mentioning several agencies and transport groups.
Lagos authorities have also announced plans for stronger enforcement against illegal ticketing, street obstructions, restricted-road violations and other activities considered threats to public safety.

The latest controversy has reignited debate about how Lagos can tackle illegal roadside activities while protecting residents, motorists, transport workers and visitors from intimidation.
For many residents, the issue extends beyond individual incidents and raises wider questions about enforcement, employment, transport regulation and public safety.
As the video continues to circulate online, Sabinus’ comments have added a prominent celebrity voice to the growing conversation about street-level disorder and alleged extortion in Lagos.
