Rhodes Vivour Learns Yoruba, Promises to Campaign in the Language Ahead of 2027 Lagos Race

Lagos governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour, has said he will campaign in Yoruba ahead of the 2027 governorship election after taking steps to improve his fluency in the language.

Rhodes Vivour disclosed this during an interview on Thursday, saying he had hired a Yoruba teacher and had since improved his ability to speak the language. He also demonstrated his progress by responding in Yoruba when greeted in the language during the interview.

While discussing his plans for the 2027 election, he said language and culture were important but argued that issues affecting Lagos residents went beyond ethnicity. He highlighted flooding, housing and traffic congestion among the challenges he said required attention across the state.

Rhodes Vivour contested the 2023 Lagos governorship election under the Labour Party and is now seeking to govern the state under the ADC platform in 2027.
