The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The monarch made the statement when members of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, led by its Director General, Abdulaziz Yari, visited the Benin Palace to seek royal blessings and support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The monarch, however, stressed that the Benin throne remains non-partisan and said his position should not be interpreted as belonging to or endorsing a political party.
He also called on political leaders, including members of opposition parties, to work together in the interest of Nigeria. According to him, democracy requires opposition, but political differences should not prevent leaders from cooperating when it benefits the country.
During the visit, Yari highlighted what he described as achievements of the Tinubu administration, including developments in the economy, inflation and foreign exchange management, while appealing for support for the President’s 2027 campaign.
The APC delegation included senior political figures such as Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume and former governors Abdullahi Ganduje, Aminu Masari and Ali Modu Sheriff.
The development adds another notable voice to the growing political discussions surrounding the 2027 presidential election, as political parties and their supporters continue to mobilise ahead of the contest.
