Tom Bischof opened the scoring in the 39th minute after Florian Wirtz’s effort struck the post. Bischof reacted quickly to the rebound and fired the ball into the net to give Germany a deserved lead.

Germany continued to control proceedings after the interval, with Serbia struggling to create sustained attacking pressure.

Wirtz eventually doubled the advantage in the 61st minute. The Liverpool midfielder received a pass from Maximilian Mittelstädt, showed excellent composure inside the penalty area and finished into the bottom corner to make it 2–0.

The second goal effectively settled the contest as Germany continued to look the more dangerous side.

The match also produced a special moment for several German players making their international debuts. Goalkeeper Jonas Urbig, forward Derry Scherhant and midfielder Vitaly Janelt were among those making their first appearances for the senior national team.

Celtic midfielder Mika Baur also entered the match in the second half and became the 1,000th different player to represent Germany at senior international level.

For Klopp, the result provides his first win since taking charge of Germany and moves his team forward in their Nations League campaign.

The German coach had admitted after the defeat to Greece that his team needed to improve, particularly against opponents who defend deeply. His side showed a marked improvement against Serbia, combining greater attacking intensity with a clean sheet.

Germany will now look to build on the victory as Klopp continues his attempt to reshape the national team and establish his preferred style of football.

The 2–0 result also gives the former Liverpool manager his first competitive victory at the beginning of his Germany tenure, ending a difficult opening two matches and providing a positive moment for the team and its supporters.
