Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Elma Aveiro, has reacted strongly to the Portugal captain’s decision to leave the national team’s training camp amid reports of tension involving the forward and head coach Jorge Jesus.
Aveiro shared a post on her Instagram Stories after Ronaldo announced that he was leaving the camp following a conversation with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença.
In the post she shared, Aveiro endorsed the message by adding the words “Everything has been said.”..READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE .
The message praised Ronaldo and argued that the veteran forward deserved greater respect. It also criticised the structure of the national team and accused Portuguese journalism of relying too heavily on speculation.
The post went further by making strong criticisms of the Portuguese public, claiming that the country had become envious and dismissive of Ronaldo and suggesting that Portuguese football could return to the less successful period before his emergence.
Ronaldo announced his departure from the national team camp on Wednesday after missing training.
The 41-year-old said his decision came after Jorge Jesus’ press conference and a subsequent conversation with Pedro Proença. Ronaldo said he would explain the circumstances behind his departure to the Portuguese public “in due time.”
He also wished Portugal and his teammates success, making no announcement of an international retirement in his statement.
The development followed Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Norway, in which Ronaldo remained on the bench despite warming up.
Jesus subsequently addressed questions about the decision and denied that there was an issue between him and Ronaldo. However, Ronaldo later left the training camp, adding to speculation about the relationship between the captain and the new Portugal coach.
The exact details of what happened between Ronaldo, Jesus and the Portuguese football authorities have not been fully disclosed.
While his sister has publicly defended him, Ronaldo himself has indicated that he will provide his version of events at a later date.
His departure has therefore generated significant attention in Portugal, particularly because of his status as one of the country’s most important footballers and the team’s long-standing captain.
For now, Portugal will continue its preparations without Ronaldo, while attention remains on the forward’s promised explanation and whether the dispute will have any further consequences for his international career.
