The video generated criticism after it spread widely on social media, particularly over the officer’s comments concerning ethnicity and politics while wearing police uniform.
Reacting to the development, the Lagos State Police Command said the remarks were made by Frank in his personal capacity and did not represent the official position of either the Lagos State Command or the Nigeria Police Force.
The Command said it had commenced appropriate disciplinary action against the inspector in accordance with established police regulations.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, CP Tijani Fatai, stressed that police officers are expected to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect when dealing with members of the public.
He noted that wearing the police uniform carries a responsibility to protect the dignity and integrity of the Force and said conduct capable of damaging public confidence in the police would not be tolerated.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and professional policing.
The specific disciplinary punishment that could be imposed on the inspector has not been announced.
The development comes amid continued scrutiny of the conduct of police personnel, particularly when videos showing officers making controversial statements or engaging in alleged misconduct circulate online.
For now, the Lagos Command has made clear that the inspector’s comments are being treated as a personal act and that disciplinary proceedings are underway to determine the appropriate action under police regulations.
