The United States has highlighted several immigration pathways through which eligible foreigners can obtain permanent residency, including employment-based routes available to highly skilled professionals, workers with advanced qualifications and certain other categories of applicants.

The development is drawing attention among people exploring opportunities to relocate to the US, particularly professionals seeking long-term residence through their careers.

Under the employment-based immigration system, one major pathway is reserved for individuals with extraordinary ability in fields such as science, arts, education, business and athletics. Outstanding professors and researchers, as well as certain multinational executives and managers, can also qualify under this category...READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE .

Another route targets professionals with advanced degrees and people who can demonstrate exceptional ability in science, arts or business. Some applicants may also qualify for a National Interest Waiver, which can remove the requirement for a specific employer sponsor where the statutory conditions are met.

The employment-based system also provides opportunities for skilled workers with at least two years of relevant training or experience, professionals holding a US bachelor’s degree or its foreign equivalent, and certain other workers.

However, eligibility does not automatically guarantee a Green Card. Applicants must meet the specific requirements of the immigration category they are applying under, and some categories are subject to annual numerical limits and waiting periods.

The US also operates the Diversity Visa programme, commonly known as the Green Card Lottery, which makes a limited number of immigrant visas available annually to people from countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States. Eligibility varies from year to year depending on the country of birth.

For example, Nigeria was among the countries whose natives were not eligible to participate in the DV 2026 programme because of the country’s immigration levels to the United States.

For prospective immigrants, the available route therefore depends on factors including nationality, education, professional experience, qualifications, family relationships, employment opportunities and the specific immigration category involved.

Anyone considering a US Green Card application should verify the current requirements through official US immigration information because eligibility rules, country lists and visa availability can change.
