The Anambra State Government has disclosed that deductions are still being made from the state’s monthly federal allocations to service loans obtained by previous administrations, including that of former Governor Peter Obi.
The state Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Law Mefor, said the loans included external facilities guaranteed by the Federal Government and maintained that such guarantees did not turn the loans into grants. He put the external facilities attributed to Obi’s administration at about $123 million.

The claim has been disputed by Obi, who has maintained that he left office in 2014 after settling obligations that were due, including salaries, pensions, contractors and suppliers. He has also challenged the Anambra government to provide evidence supporting claims that his administration left the state with outstanding liabilities.
