There was an outpouring of joy and emotion in Omugo community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, as the three remaining worshippers abducted during a church service over three months ago finally regained their freedom after spending 105 days in captivity. Their return marked the end of a painful chapter for their families and the entire community, although the celebrations were overshadowed by the memories of those who never made it back.
The victims were among eight members of the Evangelical Church Winning All, Omugo, who were kidnapped on March 22, 2026, after suspected gunmen invaded the church during a Sunday worship service. While five of the abducted worshippers reportedly died in captivity, the remaining three women, including a hearing impaired widow, were rescued following a sustained security operation targeting kidnappers operating in forests along the Kwara Kogi border.
Reacting to the development, President of the Omugo Development Union, Oladimeji Thompson, described the return of the women as a moment of mixed emotions. He expressed gratitude to God for preserving their lives while extending heartfelt condolences to the families of the five worshippers who lost their lives during the ordeal.
