Fresh cracks have emerged within the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State following a strong criticism of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa by the Asiwaju Mandate Group, which claims the governor is no longer capable of delivering the state for President Bola Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 general elections.
The group, through its Director General, Olumuyiwa Asagunla, argued that the intervention of the APC National Working Committee in reversing several National Assembly primary election results saved the party from what it described as an electoral disaster. According to the group, the initial outcome of the primaries exposed deep divisions within the state chapter of the party and reflected what it called manipulation and administrative high handedness.
Asagunla accused Governor Aiyedatiwa of sidelining founding members, elders and key stakeholders who played significant roles in building the APC in Ondo State. He alleged that since assuming office, the governor has failed to unite the party and has instead alienated influential figures whose support was instrumental to his political rise. The Asiwaju Mandate Group also claimed that the governor’s attempt to replace experienced federal lawmakers with what it described as politically inexperienced loyalists would have reduced Ondo State’s influence at the National Assembly. It commended the APC National Working Committee for reviewing and reversing some of the primary election outcomes, insisting that the decision restored confidence among party members and prevented a deeper crisis within the state chapter.
The group appealed directly to President Bola Tinubu and the APC national leadership to intervene in the affairs of the Ondo chapter before the situation worsens. It urged the party to initiate an inclusive reconciliation process capable of reuniting aggrieved stakeholders, warning that failure to address the growing discontent could have serious political consequences for the APC in the next general election.
