One of Nigeria’s leading cement and building solutions companies, Lafarge Africa Plc, has officially adopted a new corporate identity and will now operate as HBM Nigeria Plc, marking a significant turning point in the company’s history and strategic direction. The rebranding reflects changes in the company’s shareholder structure and signals the beginning of a new phase focused on growth, innovation, sustainability, and long-term value creation.
The company announced that the transition to HBM Nigeria Plc follows the approval of shareholders at its Annual General Meeting held in April 2026, while the Corporate Affairs Commission has also formally approved the new name and issued the relevant incorporation documents. Company officials explained that the rebranding aligns with its evolving business strategy and commitment to strengthening its position as a leading provider of cement, concrete, aggregates, and other building solutions in Nigeria.
Speaking on the development, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, described the new identity as an exciting chapter that reflects the company’s ambition to remain at the forefront of Nigeria’s construction and infrastructure sectors. The company reassured customers, employees, shareholders, investors, and host communities that the transition would not disrupt operations. According to management, the rollout of the new brand identity will occur in phases across the country, ensuring seamless continuity of business activities while maintaining existing relationships and commitments.
Chairman of the company, Gbenga Oyebode, expressed confidence that the new corporate identity would strengthen stakeholder trust and support the company’s long-term ambitions. He praised shareholders, management, and employees for their contributions to the company’s success and expressed optimism that HBM Nigeria Plc would continue creating sustainable value in the years ahead.
The rebranding follows the acquisition of a controlling stake in the company by Chinese cement giant Huaxin Cement after the exit of Switzerland-based Holcim Group, which had previously held majority ownership through its subsidiaries. The transaction, valued at approximately $1 billion, was completed in 2025 and paved the way for a new ownership structure that has now culminated in the company’s name change.
Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, also commended the company for its contributions to infrastructure development across the country. He highlighted its involvement in major construction projects and praised the quality of its products, noting that the company has played a significant role in supporting Nigeria’s development agenda.
Despite the new identity, HBM Nigeria Plc has assured shareholders that all existing share certificates and electronic holdings remain valid and will continue to be recognized. The company maintains that the change is primarily a strategic rebranding initiative designed to position it for future growth while preserving the legacy, values, and operational standards that have defined the business for decades.
With the transition now officially underway, industry observers see the emergence of HBM Nigeria Plc as a landmark moment for Nigeria’s cement sector, one that could shape the company’s next era of expansion, industrial development, and contribution to the nation’s infrastructure ambitions.
