An atmosphere of emotion, remembrance and celebration of life filled The Monarch Event Centre on Wednesday as family members, friends, colleagues and admirers gathered for the service of songs held in honour of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo. The event drew some of the biggest names in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, reflecting the immense impact the actor had on colleagues and fans throughout his career.
The late actor, who reportedly passed away on May 11, 2026, after battling kidney cancer, was remembered through heartfelt tributes, prayers and worship sessions that celebrated his life and contributions to the Nigerian film industry. Dressed in white as requested by the family, attendees gathered in a solemn yet uplifting atmosphere to pay their final respects.

The gathering also attracted prominent figures from beyond Nollywood. Actor Frederick Leonard, media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, singer Chike and socialite Cubana Chief Priest joined others in honouring the late actor. Celebrity couple Stan Nze and Blessing Obasi were also among those who attended the memorial event.
A major highlight of the evening was the powerful worship session led by renowned gospel ministers. Worshippers were ministered to by Peterson Okopi, Ebuka Songs, Mercy Chinwo, Nathaniel Bassey and Kaestrings. Their songs of worship and hope brought comfort to grieving family members and guests.
Also ministering at the event was Jerry Eze, whose prayers and words of encouragement added a spiritual dimension to the evening as attendees reflected on the legacy left behind by the late actor.
The service of songs officially marked the beginning of Ekubo’s funeral rites. According to the family’s burial arrangements, the funeral activities will continue in his home state, Abia State, where a wake-keep is scheduled before his final interment.
