Fresh revelations have emerged in the ongoing trial surrounding the controversial Nigeria Air project, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleging that the aircraft unveiled as part of the national carrier initiative was merely rented from Ethiopian Airlines for a brief three-day display. The disclosure has reignited debate over one of the most contentious aviation projects in Nigeria’s recent history and raised new questions about how the initiative was presented to the public.
According to evidence presented by the anti-graft agency in court, the aircraft that was showcased during the unveiling of Nigeria Air in Abuja was not a permanent asset of the proposed national carrier. Instead, prosecutors claimed the Boeing aircraft belonged to Ethiopian Airlines and was brought into Nigeria under a temporary arrangement specifically for the unveiling exercise before being returned shortly afterward.
