Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has declared that he and his proposed security outfit are fully prepared to confront kidnappers, bandits and other criminal elements hiding in forests across the South-West, but stressed that he is still waiting for official approval from the Federal Government before launching operations.
Igboho made the revelation in a statement issued in Ibadan on Monday, where he explained that all documents and legal requirements needed for the registration and operation of his security outfit, known as “Iru Ekun Security Network,” had already been submitted to the appropriate authorities. According to him, the organisation is designed to complement efforts aimed at restoring peace and security in communities plagued by kidnapping, violent attacks and other forms of criminality in the South-West region.
The activist noted that the worsening insecurity in parts of Oyo State and other South-West communities has become deeply troubling, especially after recent cases involving the abduction of schoolchildren, attacks on villages and killings linked to armed criminal groups. Igboho also stated that he intends to work within the framework of the law and expressed willingness to comply with the newly introduced Executive Order signed by Seyi Makinde regulating private security organisations and vigilante groups operating in Oyo State. The order was introduced to ensure that all security-related groups function under proper coordination and legal supervision amid growing concerns over insecurity in the region.
Speaking further, Igboho insisted that the security situation in the South-West requires urgent action, adding that communities can no longer continue living in fear while criminals allegedly occupy forests and launch attacks on innocent residents. He appealed to traditional rulers, South-West governors and federal authorities to speed up approval for the take-off of the Iru Ekun Security Network so that operations against kidnappers and armed gangs can begin immediately.
The development comes amid increasing public concern over insecurity across parts of the South-West and renewed calls for stronger community-based security initiatives. Igboho’s comments have already sparked widespread reactions online, with supporters describing the move as a bold step toward protecting local communities, while others insist that any security operation must remain under lawful government supervision and coordination with national security agencies.
