Nigerian billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has announced plans to invest $100 million in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, further strengthening investor confidence in what is already regarded as one of Africa’s most ambitious industrial projects. The announcement came after Otedola led a delegation of top executives from First HoldCo on a visit to the massive refinery complex in Lekki, Lagos.

The proposed investment is expected to form part of the refinery’s ongoing $2 billion private placement exercise being arranged ahead of its planned Initial Public Offering. Although a specific date for the IPO has not yet been announced, industry watchers believe the listing could become one of the largest and most significant public offerings in Africa’s history.

The refinery, owned by African richest man Aliko Dangote, has continued to attract strong local and international attention due to its strategic importance to Nigeria’s economy and the broader African energy market. Dangote previously disclosed that as much as 10 percent of the refinery could be sold to investors during the IPO process, with Bloomberg reportedly valuing that stake at approximately $5 billion.  ..READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE .

Reports indicate that the IPO is expected to be structured as a cross border listing to attract both domestic and foreign investors. Dangote has repeatedly stated that the listing is designed to democratize wealth creation by allowing Africans to directly participate in the continent’s industrial transformation and energy revolution.

The refinery itself has become a major symbol of Nigeria’s push for energy independence. Located in the Lekki Free Zone, the facility is considered the largest single train refinery in the world with a refining capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. Since operations began, it has significantly reduced Nigeria’s reliance on imported petroleum products while also expanding exports to several African countries.

Otedola’s latest commitment also comes just weeks after he publicly denied earlier reports claiming he had financed the refinery project from the beginning. At the time, the billionaire clarified that he had not invested in the refinery previously. However, his latest move signals a major shift and underscores growing investor optimism surrounding the refinery’s future profitability and market value.

Analysts believe the investment could encourage more high profile Nigerian and international investors to participate in the refinery’s private placement and future IPO. With the refinery already positioned as a critical asset for Africa’s energy future, Otedola’s decision is being viewed as a strong endorsement of Dangote’s long term vision and the refinery’s economic potential.
