Manchester United F.C. captain Bruno Fernandes etched his name into Premier League history after equalling the record for the most assists in a single season during Manchester United’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest F.C. at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese midfielder delivered his 20th league assist of the campaign when his superb cross was converted by Bryan Mbeumo for United’s third goal of the afternoon. With the assist, Fernandes moved level with Premier League legends Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, who previously held the single-season assist record.

The entertaining encounter at Old Trafford saw Manchester United secure an important win that guaranteed a third-place finish in the Premier League standings and confirmed their return to the UEFA Champions League next season. Luke Shaw opened the scoring early in the match with his first goal in more than three years before Forest responded through defender Morato.  ..READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE .

United quickly regained control when Matheus Cunha found the net in a controversial moment that sparked debates among fans and pundits. The goal survived a VAR review despite claims that Mbeumo handled the ball during the build-up. The controversy intensified online after replays appeared to show contact with the winger’s arm before Cunha finished clinically.

Mbeumo later sealed what proved to be the winning goal after connecting with Fernandes’ pinpoint delivery, sending Old Trafford into celebration as the midfielder reached the historic assist landmark. Nottingham Forest fought back late in the game through Morgan Gibbs-White, whose improvised finish ensured a tense ending, but United held on to secure all three points.

The result also marked an emotional occasion for veteran midfielder Casemiro, who received a standing ovation from supporters during what is believed to be his final home appearance for Manchester United. Fans inside Old Trafford applauded the Brazilian for his contributions to the club over the past seasons.

Fernandes’ remarkable campaign has further strengthened his case as one of the standout players in English football this season. The midfielder was recently named Football Writers’ Player of the Year after producing outstanding performances, goals, and assists throughout the campaign. His creativity and leadership have been central to Manchester United’s revival under interim manager Michael Carrick, who is reportedly close to receiving a permanent appointment.

With one league match still remaining, Fernandes now has the opportunity to break the all-time Premier League assist record outright and further cement his place among the greatest playmakers in the history of the competition.
