Fresh concerns have emerged over the health of controversial Nigerian singer Portable following his recent celebrity boxing match, after a medical expert publicly advised that he undergo urgent brain examination to rule out possible internal injuries.
The warning was issued by Arinze Onwumelu, a Canada based physician popularly known as Doctor Zo, who reacted after watching footage of the high intensity bout between Portable and skit maker Carter Efe. The fight, which took place in Lagos, ended with Portable suffering a defeat, but it is the nature of the punches exchanged that has now raised serious medical concerns.
According to the doctor, the level of impact Portable received during the match could pose significant health risks, particularly to the brain. He strongly recommended that the singer undergo a Magnetic Resonance Imaging scan to assess any possible internal damage that may not be immediately visible. ..READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE .
He explained that repeated blows to the head, especially in an uncontrolled or poorly protected environment, can lead to dangerous conditions such as subdural hematoma, a potentially life threatening injury involving bleeding in the brain.
The medical expert stressed that although the event was meant to be an entertainment driven exhibition match, the intensity observed suggested that proper safety precautions may not have been fully enforced. He urged those close to Portable to ensure he receives immediate medical evaluation, warning that ignoring such symptoms could have severe consequences.
Beyond the individual case, the doctor also raised broader concerns about the organization of celebrity boxing events, calling for stricter safety measures including the mandatory use of protective headgear. He emphasized that such precautions are necessary to prevent serious injuries, especially when participants are not professional fighters.
The development has added a new dimension to the already trending boxing match, which had earlier sparked debates over fairness, performance, and sportsmanship. While fans initially focused on the outcome of the fight, attention is now shifting toward the potential health implications for Portable.
As reactions continue to unfold, many Nigerians are calling for greater awareness around safety in entertainment sports, particularly events that involve physical contact. The situation serves as a reminder that beyond the spectacle and excitement, the well being of participants must remain a top priority.
For now, the spotlight remains on whether Portable will heed the medical advice and undergo the recommended tests, as concerns about his condition continue to circulate among fans and observers.
