Senegal goalkeeper Édouard Mendy has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 34, bringing an impressive eight year career with the Teranga Lions to an end.
Mendy made his Senegal debut in 2018 and went on to earn 59 international appearances. He played a key role in the country’s historic 2021 Africa Cup of Nations triumph, when Senegal defeated Egypt on penalties to claim their first continental title.

Mendy announced his decision through a video highlighting some of his memorable moments with Senegal, accompanied by a message thanking the country. He leaves international football with 31 clean sheets and 34 goals conceded across his 59 appearances.
The former Chelsea goalkeeper will now focus on his club career with Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli, while Senegal begins preparations for life after one of its most accomplished goalkeepers.
