Fresh concerns have continued to surround the death of Yoruba Nollywood actress Temitope Osoba as conflicting accounts emerge over what happened during the final hours of her life.
Osoba died on August 5, 2026, at the age of 40, but questions about the circumstances surrounding her death have intensified following different accounts from people close to her. Her death was initially linked in public reports to poisoning or complications associated with breast cancer, claims that her fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko, has disputed.
The controversy took another turn after the actress’s burial, which had been scheduled for August 13, was indefinitely postponed by the Osoba and Awonuga families. According to Onadeko, he received a midnight call informing him that Osoba had died at a police station in Ikorodu. He also rejected allegations that he diverted funds reportedly raised to support the actress’s cancer treatment, while making claims about her alleged drug use.
The actress’s family, however, has presented a significantly different account of events leading up to her death. The family said Osoba had reconnected with her paternal aunt, Kehinde Osoba Eritosin, in May 2025 and subsequently confided in her about personal and relationship difficulties.
The family further claimed that Osoba repeatedly reached out to her aunt for assistance in the days preceding her death, including asking her to intervene in issues involving her relationship with Onadeko.
According to the family’s account, Osoba’s condition became increasingly concerning on August 4 after a friend and hairdresser reportedly noticed that she had not slept, was behaving unusually and was making disturbing statements about death.
She was subsequently taken to Igbogbo Police Station in Ikorodu after allegedly causing a disturbance in traffic. The family said the police later released her into the care of her friend and two maternal sisters after her aunt requested that she be taken to her church for assistance.
The family alleged that she was instead taken to another church for prayers before her maternal relatives decided to transport her towards Sagamu.
Her condition reportedly deteriorated during the journey, leading her relatives to take her to a private hospital before she was referred to the Ogun State University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu. The family claimed that Osoba died inside the vehicle before she could receive medical attention.
These differing accounts have raised questions about what happened between the time Osoba was taken to the police station in Ikorodu and the point at which she died while being transported towards Sagamu.
The controversy has also attracted allegations from actress Basira Badia, who claimed that Osoba was badly treated before her death. Badia said she possessed evidence to support her allegations and intended to make it public after the burial. Those claims have not been independently verified.
There have also been concerns within the Nigerian entertainment industry about the support Osoba received during her final days and after her death. Actress Toyosi Adesanya, who serves as the National Director of Social and Welfare of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria, alleged that some colleagues initially declined to contribute towards Osoba’s burial because they claimed she was not a member of the association.
The growing controversy has now attracted the attention of the Celestial Church of Christ, which has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Osoba’s death. The church said it was conducting a discreet investigation following allegations involving Onadeko, who is a shepherd within the church.
The church has also rejected claims that its doctrine permits practices involving black magic, cultism or charms, adding another dimension to the controversy surrounding the actress’s final days.
For now, there has been no definitive public conclusion establishing exactly what caused Osoba’s death or resolving the conflicting accounts surrounding her final hours. The allegations being made by the various parties remain claims, and further evidence or findings from ongoing investigations will be required before firm conclusions can be reached.
