President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged voters in Osun State to come out in large numbers on Saturday and exercise their right to vote without fear, intimidation or harassment.
Tinubu gave the assurance as political parties concluded their campaigns ahead of the highly anticipated Osun State governorship election, which is scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The President assured residents that adequate security arrangements had been put in place across the state to protect voters and ensure that the election is conducted peacefully. Tinubu, while encouraging voters to make their own decisions, also appealed to them to consider the benefits of having Osun State work closely with the Federal Government. His comments came amid heightened political tension and concerns over incidents of violence reported during the electioneering period.
The President’s message is particularly significant as the election pits incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke against several challengers, including the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and other prominent contenders.
With millions of registered voters expected to participate, the election has attracted considerable attention beyond Osun State. The outcome could also carry wider political significance ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
