The Kano State Police Command has recovered two stolen vehicles taken from a church and a mosque in separate intelligence-led operations across the state, in what authorities describe as a major breakthrough in tackling vehicle theft and strengthening public safety.

According to the statement, the first incident involved a Toyota Corolla LE, 2004 model, which was reported stolen after it was taken from the premises of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Wuse, Abuja. Police said the vehicle was traced through coordinated investigations and eventually recovered in Kano following sustained surveillance and tracking operations.
In a separate case, officers also recovered another stolen vehicle linked to a report made at the Khalifa Isyaka Rabiu Friday Mosque, Gadon Kaya along BUK Road. The vehicle was reportedly stolen after worship activities, prompting a swift response from the Sharada Police Division after the complaint was lodged.
Police investigations revealed that operatives quickly activated patrol strategies and intelligence networks in collaboration with local vigilante groups in Ja’en Quarters. The stolen vehicle was eventually recovered at about 5:30 a.m. on April 25, 2026, after a coordinated search effort.
Authorities confirmed that both vehicles are now in safe custody while efforts continue to track down those responsible for the thefts. The police also stated that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest additional suspects connected to the incidents.
The Kano Police Command praised the officers involved for their swift response and professionalism, while also commending community members and vigilante groups who provided timely intelligence that aided the recoveries.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring safety across religious and public spaces, noting that such recoveries highlight the effectiveness of collaboration between security agencies and the public.
