President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed 39-year-old Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, marking a major leadership transition in one of Nigeria’s most important education agencies. The appointment comes as the tenure of the current registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, officially ends on July 31, 2026.

Professor Aina, a respected academic and systems engineering expert from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, is set to become the youngest person ever appointed to lead JAMB since the board was established nearly five decades ago. His appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Presidency through the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the Presidency, Aina was selected based on his strong background in digital infrastructure, examination systems, and institutional reforms within the public sector. The Federal Government believes his experience in technology and educational administration will help strengthen JAMB’s operations and continue the reforms introduced under the outgoing registrar...READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE .

The appointment has already generated widespread reactions across the education sector, with many describing it as a bold move aimed at injecting youthful energy and technological innovation into the examination body. Analysts also see the decision as a signal that the Tinubu administration is prioritising competence, modernization, and generational inclusion in key public institutions.

Professor Aina is expected to take over from Professor Oloyede, who has widely been credited for transforming JAMB during his two terms in office. Under Oloyede’s leadership, the examination body recorded major reforms in transparency, revenue generation, computer-based testing, and admission processes across Nigerian tertiary institutions.

Reports indicate that the incoming registrar studied Computer Systems Engineering in the United Kingdom before advancing his academic career in digital signal processing, internet computing, and network security. His expertise in technology-driven systems is expected to play a significant role in improving JAMB’s digital operations and examination credibility.

Many education stakeholders are now watching closely to see how the new registrar will build on the achievements of his predecessor while addressing challenges facing tertiary admissions and examination management in Nigeria.

The appointment takes effect after the expiration of Professor Oloyede’s tenure later this year.
