Former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services following a request from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations against him.
According to security sources, Nnaji was apprehended on Wednesday at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu while preparing to board a private jet bound for Abuja. The DSS reportedly carried out the arrest on behalf of the ICPC before handing the former minister over to the anti corruption agency for further investigation.
Sources familiar with the matter disclosed that the ICPC had previously invited Nnaji on several occasions in connection with petitions alleging irregularities during his tenure as minister. The ICPC later confirmed that the former minister was arrested after allegedly refusing to respond to multiple invitations over an investigation into claims of certificate forgery. The commission explained that the arrest was carried out at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja with the assistance of DSS operatives following the execution of a bench warrant issued by the Federal High Court.
Nnaji resigned from office in October 2025 amid public controversy surrounding the allegations, although he has consistently denied any wrongdoing. His arrest marks the latest development in a case that has attracted widespread public attention and legal scrutiny.
As of the time of the arrest, neither the DSS nor the former minister had issued an official statement on the matter. The ICPC, however, maintained that the investigation would continue in accordance with the law as authorities work to determine the validity of the allegations against the former minister.
