Global music heavyweights Madonna, Shakira and BTS are set to make history as headliners of the first-ever halftime show at a FIFA World Cup final, a groundbreaking entertainment spectacle that will take place during the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on July 19 at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The announcement has sparked massive excitement across the football and entertainment worlds, with FIFA confirming that the performance will introduce a Super Bowl-style halftime experience to the biggest sporting event on the planet. The 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, is already expected to be the most expansive edition of the tournament, featuring 48 national teams and over 100 matches.

According to FIFA, the halftime performance is being curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay in partnership with Global Citizen. Organisers described the event as a historic blend of football, music and global culture designed to unite millions of fans worldwide while also promoting humanitarian causes.  ..READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE .

FIFA President Gianni Infantino called the event a landmark moment for football entertainment, saying the World Cup final deserved a celebration worthy of the world’s biggest sporting stage. The halftime show will also support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative aimed at raising $100 million to improve access to education and football opportunities for children globally. FIFA revealed that part of the proceeds from ticket sales throughout the tournament will contribute to the project.

For many football fans, the inclusion of Shakira adds another layer of nostalgia and excitement. The Colombian superstar has long been associated with football culture following the global success of her 2010 World Cup anthem “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” and her performances at previous international football events. Reports also suggest she will debut a new World Cup-themed song titled “Dai Dai,” which reportedly features Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy.

Meanwhile, Madonna brings decades of pop culture dominance to the stage, while BTS are expected to attract an enormous global audience following their return from a lengthy hiatus caused by military service commitments and solo projects. Their participation is already generating major buzz across social media platforms worldwide.

The halftime show is expected to transform the atmosphere of the World Cup final into an entertainment spectacle similar to the NFL Super Bowl, which has become globally famous for combining elite sports with blockbuster music performances. Although FIFA regulations traditionally allow only a 15-minute halftime break, reports indicate organisers may extend the duration slightly to accommodate the large-scale production.

The event will also feature appearances from iconic Sesame Street and Muppets characters, adding a family-friendly dimension to the celebration and reinforcing the education-focused message behind the initiative.

With football and music fans already counting down to the tournament, the 2026 FIFA World Cup final is shaping up to become one of the most watched and talked-about live events in modern entertainment history.
