Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have apprehended three suspected kidnappers and successfully rescued a victim who was abducted in Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area.
The development was confirmed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement issued on Friday, April 24, 2026.
According to the police, the suspects allegedly deceived the victim, an electrician, by offering him a job opportunity. Acting on reliable intelligence, operatives from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Awkuzu, in collaboration with members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, carried out a coordinated operation in a bush area at Umuezeala Awuda, Nnobi. The team successfully rescued the victim and arrested the suspects at the scene.
During the operation, security operatives also recovered a ransom sum of ₦469,000, along with a locally made Beretta pistol believed to have been used in the crime.
Police identified the suspects as Chidalu Obi (25), Chichebem Ojenigbo (26), and Chikannechukwu Eze (20).
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects executed the plan by luring the victim under false pretenses. Upon his arrival, he was overpowered, blindfolded, and moved to a secluded bush location where he was held while ransom was demanded.
Investigations further revealed that the suspects had already received the ransom payment, which was allegedly transferred into a SportyBet account linked to one of them, Chidalu Obi.
Authorities say the suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crime, while efforts are ongoing to deepen investigations and uncover any additional accomplices.
The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information that can aid security agencies in combating crime.
