Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has opened up on why he refused to attend the recent opposition summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, making it clear that he has no interest in what he described as a gathering of “recycled” political actors.

According to him, many of the individuals involved in the summit have previously held positions of power and were part of the system that contributed to Nigeria’s current challenges. He argued that it would be misleading for such figures to suddenly present themselves as agents of reform.
The activist stressed that Nigeria requires a genuine political alternative, not a reshuffling of familiar faces under a new alliance. He maintained that the idea of rebranding old political actors as a new opposition force does not inspire confidence or hope among citizens.
Sowore further stated that his party remains committed to building a people-driven movement focused on integrity, accountability, and real transformation, rather than aligning with what he sees as opportunistic political arrangements.
He insisted that the country’s problems cannot be solved by the same political class that presided over years of stagnation and systemic issues, adding that Nigerians deserve a complete break from the past rather than a continuation disguised as change.
